Everybody suffers from New Year Syndrome. You go to write '2015', but it's now '2016'. Fortunately that's easy to correct... unless you've just bought tickets. I must never be left in charge of any task, ever.

Subject: Help I've fecked up my booking ITR166256

I've made a bit of a mistake.
This morning I purchased a rail ticket for next month. The payment was successful and credit has been taken from my Leap account. A few hours later I'm looking at my receipt and I realise I've already managed to miss my train, because the ticket I have just paid for is for last year.

I don't wish to believe that I would make such an elementary mistake, but the evidence is difficult to argue with. I've tried to cancel the booking but it says I can't because the travel date has already passed, which I feel is rubbing it in a little bit. I also can't purchase new tickets because this has used all the credit on my Leap card and I don't want to put any more on there as I clearly can't be trusted with it.

Assuming this isn't some-sort of Groundhog Day/Money Train* crossover film, could you please help me fix this?

* - I haven't seen Money Train but I've seen Groundhog Day and thought it was really good. I do like Bill Murray although I felt he thought Zombieland was a bit beneath him, and his performance was a bit limp, not sure if you agree? I was going to give Polar Express as a better punchline but that would imply your trains are cold and I wouldn't want to say that. Flooding is more your issue at the moment.

I must apologise for this embarrassing error as I realise January 2015 wasn't just a little bit last year, it was very last year, but I'm sure you'll agree time is certainly flying by at the moment. Today is my sister's birthday and I can't believe she's 15 even though I'm sure she was only 8 a few weeks ago. That was a metaphorical example although I do not have a good record when it comes to appreciating time.

Don't worry, this happens a lot at this time of year.

I've reset the credit on your Leap Card. You now need to book the tickets online again. Please be careful when selecting the dates although it is quite difficult to make a mistake.

I hope your sister had a good birthday. I regret I'm not a fan of Bill Murray.
